Course Introduction

This course is an advanced design practice course for students who want to develop their expertise in “Sustainable and Ecological Design” module. It will be taught by multiple teachers collaboratively. The course focuses on ecosystems such as energy, resources, and agriculture, with a particular emphasis on the deep transformation of social and technological systems such as consumption behavior and lifestyle in sustainable scenarios in the future. Its content covers theoretical explanations, report writing, design topic selection, expert lectures, case analysis, field survey, and program improvement, emphasizing the integration and innovation of interdisciplinary knowledge. At the end, a course exhibition will be held to show students' design achievements. Through this course, students will gain a deep understanding of the fundamentals of sustainable and ecological design, and master design concepts and methods such as sustainable product service systems and designing for behavior change. They will be able to expand the boundaries of design and seek opportunities for design innovation from a humanistic and technological perspective, and explore sustainable design solutions for a future zero carbon society. This will lay the foundation for subsequent graduation projects, as well as future design research and practice.
