Course Introduction
The History of Industrial Design is a core foundation course for industrial design majors, and its teaching objective is to enable students to understand the evolution of design in human history, especially since the Industrial Revolution, including various design schools, design styles, famous designers and their works, as well as the historical conditions of design development. The course focuses on the history of human design, especially the major historical events that have taken place in the past 250 years, as a clue to sort out the significant impact that design has had in the process of national development. The course is divided into 10 chapters, namely: Design and Civilization, Productivity Revolution, Defining the New Aesthetics, Coming Out of the Great Depression, Shaping a New Life, Prosperity of Design, Sharp Tools of Innovation, Manufacturing to Creativity, Social Innovation, and the Future of Design. In the current process of economic transformation and independent innovation in China, the leading role of innovation played by design in changing the image of Made in China as well as truly becoming an innovative country is particularly important. This is very important for students to correctly understand the inner power and grasp the direction of industrial design in future.
