Course Introduction
In the process of globalization and the development of China's unique characteristics, addressing complex issues such as climate, environment, energy, wealth disparity, and cultural identity conflicts and crises, as well as social needs like education, healthcare, security, happiness, diversity, and sharing, requires a design-technology-service system that supports sustainable development in ecology, economy, society, and culture. It also requires cultivating future-oriented talents with comprehensive abilities in systems design, critical thinking, participatory design, collaborative design, and transformational design to support the balanced development of culture and industry in the process of regional revitalization through innovative design. To achieve these goals, the course focuses on exploring social innovation based on cultural research and design participation, paying attention to the diverse cultural values of rural China within different regional cultural contexts. It is oriented towards the learning, inheritance, and innovation of cultural resources, attracting students to immerse themselves in local communities through diverse regional cultures. In response to China’s issues of "targeted poverty alleviation" and "rural revitalization," which reflect "insufficient and unbalanced" development, the course follows a path of "cultural connotation—design reconstruction—artistic reproduction." Through theoretical teaching and fieldwork, students are trained to discover, understand, and solve social problems through comprehensive collaborative innovation, supporting the balanced development of culture and industry in regional revitalization and enhancing the cultural influence and industrial output capacity of traditional culture along the "Belt and Road Initiative."
